A cueing sound file player with reverb - now iPhone controllable.

This is a little Max/MSP patch which plays stereo AIFF sound files on cue, with up to 10 playing at any one time. Additionally it takes two mono inputs and can apply some basic reverb using IRCAM's "Spat" system. To use this you need to have either a full copy of cycling74's Max/MSP or the free Max/MSP Runtime application on your computer - this is available to download here.

To use it name your sound files 1.aif, 2.aif, 3.aif etc. and place them in a folder along with this patch. Ideally include a silent file called silence.aif which is at least as long as your piece - this makes the elapsed time clock work and prevents your computer's hard drive from sleeping between long gaps in performance, but it's not essential. Open the patch, turn sound processing on, hit the "load" button and you're ready to go. Spacebar and an input MIDI sustain pedal down message (control 64) duplicate the function of the "next" button. The Home key duplicates the "back one", Page Down key duplicates "repeat" and End duplicates "forward one" . The "reset" and "goto cue" controls should be self explanatory. For communication with other equipment the patch also sends out a MIDI note every time the "next" button is hit.

The reverb controls are accessed by double-clicking on the object "Spat_Oper source1"

This patch is now also controllable via a wireless network with an iPhone using the free iTM MidiLab application - available at the iTunes app store here. You'll need to be running iTouchMidi on the computer running the patch and then connect computer and iPhone to the same network - for more information about this go to the iTouchMidi website. Once connected use the 4x4 control - any top row button duplicates "next" and the bottom row duplicates "back", "repeat", "forward" and "reset".

Some familiarity with Max/MSP and getting sound in and out of it would be helpful to use it. The patch was written and tested using version 5.0.2 on an Intel Mac running system 10.5.4.
